Rule Changes for CalGames 2018

G09, launching power cubes is ok, within safety parameters violations. Can’t take other team’s cube out of arena.

G09 Launching POWER CUBES is okay, but keep it short. A ROBOT is not permitted to launch POWER CUBES except: A,B,C No penalty.

This change to G09 does NOT change G20, G21, G23, G24, or G10.

Robots deliberately using Power Cubes for any action other than intended, i.e. to balance/rebalance Switch or Scale will be penalized accordingly.

G22, modification: only control more than one cube of their own in an exchange zone (G22a)

G22-One POWER CUBE per ROBOT. ROBOTS may not control more than one (1) POWER CUBE at a time. Except when in their own EXCHANGE ZONE. When a ROBOT is in it’s EXCHANGE ZONE it may control up to 2 (two) POWER CUBEs.

Penalties remain the same

G25, can’t move scale to your own advantage.  Modification: no fault if moved and not to your advantage

G25- PLATES are moved by POWER CUBES, not ROBOTS. Except via the weight of place POWER CUBES, ROBOTS may not directly or transitively cause or prevent the movement of PLATES. Movement, or prevention of movement, of PLATES because of momentary ROBOT action resulting in minimal PLATE displacement is not a violation of this rule. A ROBOT forced to affect the position of a PLATE because of contact by an opponent ROBOT either directly or transitively through a POWER CUBE or other ROBOT (e.g. a ROBOT wedged underneath the SCALE by the opposing ALLIANCE either intentionally or accidentally) is not a violation of this rule. [Add] A ROBOT that accidentally moves a PLATE to the advantage of their opponent, will not incur additional penalties, FOULS or TECH FOULS for the time the situation remains.

*C03/C04 have not been modified for this rule change. The intent is to reduce the penalty for inexperienced drivers and coaches.

Registration Policy for CalGames 2018

Every team needs to volunteer for a slot to confirm ANY registration regardless of TIER. (see FAQs at end for details on what “Every team needs to volunteer” means).

IMPORTANT POINT: If a team does not show up for their volunteer slot, two things will happen: (a) the $100 deposit will not be returned; and (b) the team will be suspended from participating at the following year CalGames.

The goal of the TIERED registration process was to encourage a commitment by teams for harder-to-fill volunteer slots. Tiers this year are (1) early registration and (2) open registration.

Payment

Postmark with payment must be 9/15 or earlier, otherwise the registered (but unpaid) team goes to the waiting list.
